It's Nice To Hear...

That I am appreciated.  A few days ago my boss volunteered to bring me some books to study so that I can take the exam to be a Licensed Pharmacy Technician.  I definitely told her yes - I would love to have the certification!  I'd also get letters after my name.  She said that I had been a huge help over the weekend when we were short-handed, and I definitely proved (to her at least) that I deserved to become certified.  I'm tempted to take the test without studying for it, since I have always tested well, but having some indicator of what may be on it and what to expect is probably a good idea, so I will get the books, and I may shell out the money for the practice tests.

Wednesday? No WAY!

I could have sworn today was Monday.  Everything was crazy at work.  From someone oversleeping and being two hours late (no, it wasn't me!) to psycho patients blaming us for their doctors' apparent inability to call and refill their prescriptions.  The person being late threw off the day more than anyone would have guessed - we usually don't get that behind when someone calls in and is gone all day.  I can understand why some patients were upset - at one point our wait time was almost three hours.  But others - well, they had no call to be upset with us.  If your doctor is holding up the process, there's nothing your pharmacy can do!  Don't blame me just because I'm the one standing in front of you.  At no point during today did we ever truly catch up on our work.  We just did the best we could and sighed with relief when it was time to close down for the day.

Hot Hot Hot

My word, it has been hotter than hot here the past few days!! The last two days in a row we had temps in the mid-90s plus high humidity. That makes for some pretty unbearable times when you have no a/c - which is the case for me at home, in the car, and at work, so pretty much all the time.
Yesterday I managed to run errands and enjoyed going in to the a/c zones of the store and the library. Today I was not so lucky - today I had to work. At one point (around 6pm) I got an outdoor thermometer off of the shelf and brought it out to our work area. Within 10 minutes it was reading 92 degrees (in the shade). Someone got the idea to put it out in the sun to see how much hotter it was out there. Set it down on the cement slab and within 5 minutes it had maxed out at over 120 degrees. Is it any wonder that very little physical work was done today? Thankfully there was little enough to do that nobody really complained about us lazing around.

I still have my sunscreen/sunblock issue. Every one I use reacts badly with my sweat and turns my clothes orange. It's nothing that is visible on my skin, and on a dark shirt it does not show, but I should not have to choose between spending the entire summer in dark clothes, ruining everything I wear, or getting sunburned every day. This is extremely frustrating. Even more frustrating is that the sunscreen seems to hold on to my skin longer than one would expect. I wore sunscreen YESTERDAY but did not apply TODAY. However, the shirt I wore TODAY is the one that got orange sunscreen stains on it. The one from yesterday is fine. I don't know why that is, but that's the status. Tomorrow I will need sunscreen again, but tomorrow I will be wearing a swimsuit and I don't care if that gets stained by my sunscreen. In this case, I'd rather have a stained swimsuit than a painful sunburn across my back and shoulders.
I can't help but wonder if it's related somehow to having had my gallbladder out last summer. I never had a problem with it before last July, around the same time I started having the really bad painful gallstone attacks. I had my gallbladder out in August, and didn't need/use sunscreen the rest of the season. Now this year I am completely without a gallbladder, and I'm still having the problem. Maybe it's a coincidence, but maybe it's not. Hard to say.

Not A Good Day.

It's been a hard day. It started out OK, but went downhill from there.

First, I realized that my rental movie was not only overdue, but I had not watched it yet and therefore it would either be another day overdue or I'd have to return it without watching it. I told Jon to just return it, but I just looked over there and it's still here. I'm going to pop it in when I get offline.

Then, I had to work today. That's not horrible, I just wasn't feeling it today. Yesterday was rough because not enough people were scheduled. Today was the exact same way. It's getting old.

While at work, I banged into a corner, bruising my left arm, and, about an hour later, bumped a piece of the hot fryer, burning my right arm. I now have a bright red burn in the shape of a 7.

I get home and it's raining, but we have to put the recycling out tonight because they come at around 7:30 am, which is well before my wake-up time. So I got rained on.

Then, I get online and check my email to find that I've been cut out of my brother-in-law's wedding party. Perfect. Just top off my day, why don't you? I'm not really upset about it (after all, it saves me $200 for a dress), but I am disappointed and a little hurt.

Tomorrow can only be better, right?

I'm going to beat someone senseless someday...

Or maybe they're senseless already and that's why I'm so frustrated!

I work in the deli department. A large portion of my job is slicing up various meats and cheeses for customers. For reasons that I may never understand, 95% of customers are EXTREMELY thick-headed when I ask for clarification on how thick or thin they want their slices to be!

There is no such designation as shaved - nor do I have a setting on my slicer for slivered, chipped, deli thin, sandwich thin, average, medium, etc. We have a chart with numbers corresponding to various thicknesses for a reason. Our slicers have dials with NUMBERS on them to indicate the how thick the slice will come out. When I ask you to clarify what you mean by "shaved" by using a number, don't look at me like I'm the idiot and repeat that you want it shaved. Doing so is likely to cause me to do a piss-poor job with your request, since you did a piss-poor job of telling me what you really wanted. PICK A DAMN NUMBER!

And please, for the love of anything you wish to love, please don't ask me to shred your meat. That's why you have a food processor and/or a blender. Shred it yourself. I have better things to do, like throw things at the customers who insist that they want their meat "shaved".
